The Centre for Industrial Application of Microcellular Plastics Grand Opening on May 2nd was a great success. More than 75 international company representatives, academic professors and government officials attended the Grand Opening ceremonies. The attendees were treated to a guided tour of the equipment and CIAMP, and attended the Grand Opening Ceremony.

The Centre for Industrial Application of Microcellular Plastics (CIAMP) is a state-of-the art research centre for developing innovative, commercially viable plastic foaming technologies with industry-scale research facility. CIAMP is an integral extension to the Microcellular Plastics Manufacturing Laboratory (MPML), which is the international leader in plastic foaming research since its inception within the University of Toronto in 1993.
The objective of the CIAMP is to collaborate with industries to develop innovative microcellular plastic products and commercially viable processing technologies. The CIAMP is an integral part of a world-leading research network and infrastructure directed by Dr. Chul B Park in the science and technology of plastic foaming. The investigation on the science of plastic foaming is undertaken by the NSERC Network for Innovative Plastic Materials and Manufacturing Processes (NIPMMP), a $5-million research initiative uniting 21 leading academic researchers across Canada, and the Microcellular Plastics Manufacturing Laboratory (MPML). The scientific knowledge acquired in these endeavors will be used to develop innovative plastic products and processing technologies. To enable effective technology transfer and commercialization, it is imperative to conduct industry-scale experimentation and optimization of these technologies. This is the main target of the CIAMP. The CIAMP is equipped with state-of-the-art plastic foaming facility, such as industry-scale extrusion foaming and injection foam molding systems. In addition, the CIAMP is supported by substantial industry expertise from the Consortium of Cellular and Microcellular Plastics (CCMCP), a network uniting more than 20 leading plastic companies around the world. With this extensive research network and infrastructure, we are dedicated to bridging science to technology and providing solution to enable our partners' success on their foaming technology.
